Quinton Nix here. I’m going to take a minute to make a quick tutorial for you guys here to get an idea of how to sign up for Twitter. Alright, so you’re going to start off by going to Twitter.com i.e. www.twitter.com. You come over here and this is going to be the homepage. I guess you’re new to using Twitter, so you’re going to click on the green button that says ‘Join the conversation’. Click that button, come over here, and this is going to be the ‘Create a free Twitter account’ page. Put in whatever username you have in mind however don’t try to sign up with any username that has the word ‘twitter’ in it. Select your password and put your email address and then finally put in the little captcha – the captcha is case sensitive. If you want to sign up for the newsletter, click the box and just then click ‘I accept, create my account’ and here we are! This brings you to a page that says ‘Are your friends on Twitter?’ This is a page that would basically ask you for your email password because it’s going to go into that email here that you have selected and it’s going to find your contact book and send all your contacts an invitation to Twitter, so that they come on to chat for you. If you don’t want to do that, you just go over and click on ‘Skip’ which brings you to a page that says ‘What are you doing?’ It automatically added me as a friend because I came from my link here and they tracked that. So, this is going to be your standard page and you’ll see that basically you’ve got a section here where it’s limited to 140 characters. You put in whatever you want here, you know for example, ‘What are you doing right now?’ I type ‘I’m creating a Twitter tutorial for my loyal blog readers!’ and you click ‘Update’ and basically what happens is that it shows your message here so all your friends can see it. So, right now, we’re following one person and we have one follower. So, in order to start following people and getting them to follow you, the way it works in Twitter is, common rule of thumb is ‘I follow you, you follow me’ type of thing. Okay, so what you need to start off doing is if you have any friends - search for them, if not, there are ways to go in there and start looking for people that are already there and start adding them and they will actually follow you. So, we’re going to show you how to start a quick easy example here. You go down and you’ll see a section called ‘Following’ showing one person. Click ‘add’ and it takes you to the ‘Are your friends on Twitter?’ page, on the ‘Find on Twitter’ tab, that says ‘Who are you looking for?’ Put in the actual name of the person you’re looking for, or the username, and click ‘Search’. This will take you to a page that shows the search results that most closely match the name you typed. In order to follow that person, just click ‘Follow’ next to the person’s name. Every time this person posts a new status update, you’re going to get to see it. They’re also going to get a notice saying such and such person added you – would you like to add them as well? If you check the ‘Following’ area, you’ll now find the person you just added over there. There are similar to the top right hand corner of your Twitter page as well. You can also go through the tabs at the top of the page, go to your profile, find people with other searches, and just have fun with it. This thing is such fun, and you can build a huge network in a very short time, and stay in touch with people in a way that you never have before. I definitely look forward to Tweeting you guys – if you want to add me, search for my name, Quinton N., find my profile, and add me. I’m looking forward to following you guys back!
