Google is constantly changing their algorithm which causes changes to rankings and the focus of internet marketing strategies. Over 20 large Google algorithm changes were seen in 2011 -
see an outline of the main changes here.

SPYW (Search Plus Your World) is a MAJOR development for what we will see in the search results, and thus affecting SEO practices. While it's going to take a long time for Google to change their algorithm, most SEO professionals believe that traditional links will become far less impactful than social signals...especially
Google Plus. The search robots would find both content that has been shared with an individual (the seacher) along with matches from the public web, all congretated together into the master listing.
Currently the new search results are only seen by those signed-in to Google.com and searching in English.
We recommend that our customers start seeing social media as more blurred with SEO and other
inbound marketing techniques. As 1+'s, likes, shares, comments, retweets replace links as the number one factor in the algorithm (which could take longer than everyone thinks, potentially years) we need to find ways to obtain these social signals for our clients in order for them to outrank their competitors. Currently, the main focus on these search results is on Google+, that platform should be integrated into current social media efforts.
