Google+ Business Pages are becoming readily available. You are probably eager to learn more about the capabilities of Google+. But why wait and see what other people do? Get ahead of the fast moving social media curve and create your page – it’s easy! Here are the 5 main steps to get you started. The profile is still being tweaked and developed, so keep that in mind.

Step 1: Choose Your Gmail Account
Try not to use a personal gmail account, instead create a new one that could be accessed by your marketing team (e.g. yourcompanyteam@gmail.com), and use that account to create your profile.
Step 2: Create a Page with the Desired Account
Visit http://plus.google.com/pages/create, and if you see the option to create a Google+ page, get started! Follow the wizard (it’s much like facebook’s page creation wizard), and choose the most appropriate option to classify your business. Some example classifications are “local business or place”, “product or brand” etc.
After selecting your classification, fill in your basic profile info (pretty standard for social media sites).
Step 3: Customize Your Public Profile
The basics of the public profile include your tagline (your businesses 30-second overview) and an image (such as your company logo). Keep it short and sweet, but informative and descriptive.
Step 4: Promote Your Page
Step 2 and 3 help to create a frame of your page, and Google+ will move you toward promoting your page. Hubspot’s recommendation is to customize your page as much as you can, and start sharing a few updates before you begin telling the world about it. (Who wants to like an empty and unused page?)
Step 5: Optimize Further
At the most basic level, steps 1-4 are what is essential to getting your page launched. But if you want to use Google+ to really work for you, the ‘basics’ are not really enough. It is important to ‘optimize’ your page to not only make it more engaging, but also more valuable and effective for lead generation.
Many of the same best practices apply on Google+ as they do on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and the other social networks. Regularly share fresh content, reach and respond to your fans, be engaging, and build the page around motivating people to contact you or buy your product/service.
After that, measure response and use, adapt to take that information into account, and optimize your presence based on your businesses results and goals.
